Samantha Owens is a Los Angeles based film composer, originating from Austin, Texas. In addition to composing for film, she is trained in music production, and editing. Samantha has a Bachelor of Arts in Music - Film Scoring from the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied with composer Jack Stamps and trombonist Dr. Nathaniel Brickens. She has received a Masters degree in Scoring for Film and Multimedia at New York University, where she was the recipient of the Excellence in Graduate Music Composition and Film Music Award and a winner of the 2018 NYU Film Scoring Competition. At NYU she studied with Film/TV composers Irwin Fisch and Mark Suozzo, and Video Game composer Tom Salta.

Samantha's musical style stems from her training in classical and contemporary compositional styles, and her first-hand study of Celtic and Nordic folk music. She has spent the majority of her life immersing herself in foreign traditional music and culture, and has lived in numerous countries including Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Korea, Spain, UK, and France. Samantha crafts her compositional style from a blend of all of her influences, focusing heavily on Neoclassical, Romantic, and Celtic/Nordic folk styles. She enjoys making melodic use of underutilized instruments, and often integrates instrumentation from a wide variety of cultures, forging varied hybrids of traditional styles.

In addition to composing; Samantha plays the tenor trombone and piano, is fluent in German, and is a literary writer in multiple languages. She enjoys combining her non-musical and musical interests in order to experiment with blending different forms of art.
